According to the "2Q Wage Work Trends" released by the National Statistical Office, the total wage work jobs in the second quarter increased by 254,000 from a year ago.
This is the smallest increase since the increase of 211,000 in the second quarter of 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began.
The number of jobs under the age of 30 fell by 134,000, the largest drop since related statistics were compiled in 2017, and the number of people in their 40s also fell by 56,000, the largest drop ever.
On the other hand, the number increased by 261,000 for those in their 60s and older, 124,000 for those in their 50s, and 59,000 for those in their 30s.
The poor job conditions for those in their teens and 20s and 40s are due to sluggish domestic industries such as wholesale and retail and construction.
