The Jeonju District Court sentenced A, in his 70s, to 10 years in prison on charges of pocketing a large amount of money, saying he would cure the disease.

Mr. A is accused of stealing 1.67 billion won from 14 Catholics in the name of atonement gifts by deceiving him as a special spiritual being while holding prayer meetings since 2014.

The court pointed out that Mr. A's methods are very malicious, such as taking large sums of money from victims by saying that the current difficulties will worsen or be passed down.
