Norovirus causes acute gastroenteritis and is highly contagious, and half of the 243 food poisoning cases caused by it have been concentrated in winter over the past five years.
In particular, it occurred more in group cafeterias such as schools and daycare centers than in restaurants and homes.
As the main cause of norovirus infection is uncooked fish and shellfish such as raw oysters, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety urged people to eat oyster products by heating them sufficiently if there is a mark such as "for cooking" or "cooked food."
He also stressed that people with suspected norovirus symptoms should not participate in cooking at schools or daycare centers, and that even if symptoms have recovered, they should rest for two to three more days to prevent infection.
