A 40-year-old man in his 40s was sentenced to probation for physical abuse, such as hitting his teenage adopted daughter in the calf with a whip and a filial son, and emotional abuse with the words "I will send her away, let's die together."

According to the legal community on the 22nd, Judge Kang Myung-joong of the Chuncheon District Court sentenced A (44, female), who was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse), to 10 months in prison and two years of probation.

Earlier, A was put on trial from 2012 to January 2022 on charges of physical abuse three times at his home and his grandmother's home in Yeongwol, and emotional abuse three times against his daughter B (19), whom he adopted in 2005.

While talking to B, who was 17 years old at the time, on the phone in mid-January 2022, Mr. A was angry that his daughter often stayed at his boyfriend's house and said, "You can't live like this." Let's organize the documents, I'll destroy them,' he said.

Also, when Ms. B said she was upset while talking about what happened with her friends in the fall of 2015, Mr. A became angry and said, 'You should have done this in that situation. In the spring of 2016, he said, "Is your brain not rolling?" and he brought a weapon with him, slammed the table several times, and told Ms. B to "die together," making it mentally difficult.

In addition to this emotional abuse, she was angry and slapped B on the cheek with her hand when she heard from B, who learned of the adoption in early June 2021, saying, "Why did you bring her if she was going to do this?" In the summer of 2016, she is also accused of hitting B's calf 20 times with a filial hand after tearing up a math workbook and saying, "If you're not going to study, don't do it."

In addition, the indictment included charges of physical abuse on three occasions, including hitting B's calf 20 times with a whip in 2012.

The court said, "The nature of the crime is not good for physical and emotional abuse in the process of disciplining the adopted daughter. The victim is complaining of considerable mental distress due to the accused's actions, he added, "However, although the accused's actions are excessive beyond the scope of legitimate discipline, the sentence was decided taking into account circumstances such as the fact that he appears to have committed such acts for the purpose of discipline overall."
