The U.N. Security Council has decided to exempt the European Union from sanctions against North Korea so that it can make limited remittances to Italian companies that help the EU with food aid projects to North Korea.

According to the Security Council's website on the 21st local time, the Security Council approved the sanctions exemption applied by Italian agricultural company Agri Consulting SA on the 8th, asking for permission to deliver funds to North Korea.

Agri Consulting SA is a company that has signed a contract with the EU regarding humanitarian projects in North Korea.

It provides technical support, such as sending operating funds to the Food Security Office, which is working on the EU's food aid project to North Korea.

Agri Consulting SA applied for the sanctions exemption through the U.N. Italian representative as its contract with the EU was extended until the end of February 2026.

The Security Council's sanctions exemption is effective until November 8 next year, and the company can transfer up to 685,015 euros to North Korea during this period and about 1 billion won in our money.

The Security Council's decision is in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2397-25, which allows sanctions against North Korea to be exempted for humanitarian aid.
