Marine Corps Commemorative Event for 14th Anniversary of 'Yeonpyeong Island Shelling War'"Memories of dedication and sacrifice".

A memorial event was held to mark the 14th anniversary of the "Yeonpyeong Island shelling war" in which North Korea shelled Yeonpyeong Island and nearby seas, causing casualties of soldiers and civilians.

The Marine Corps Command held a commemorative event for the 14th anniversary of the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island at the Daejeon National Cemetery in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon on the morning of the 23rd.

Hosted by Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan, a total of 270 people attended the event, including the bereaved families of the late Sergeant Seo Jeong-woo and the late Private Moon Kwang-wook, Navy Chief of Staff Yang Yong-mo, Vice Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Lee Hee-wan, as well as participating and active soldiers.

The event, which began with a national ceremony, was held in the order of performance and resolution of victory, along with remarks by the commander's commemorative speech and the bereaved families of the two soldiers.

Kim Gye-hwan, commander of the Marine Corps, said in his commemorative speech, "We should remember that the freedom and peace we enjoy are due to the dedication and sacrifice of heroes for the country," and said, "We will continue the Marine Corps tradition based on public trust."

The Yeonpyeong Island shelling war was a battle in which the Marine Corps Yeonpyeong Unit responded to North Korea's surprise shelling provocation in Yeonpyeong Island, Incheon, on November 23, 2010, killing the late Sergeant Seo Jeong-woo, the late Private Moon Kwang-wook and two civilians.
