The Japanese side responded that it was regrettable that the Korean government decided not to attend the memorial service for the Sado mine a day before.

The Japanese Embassy in Seoul said in a media interview that the Japanese government has been cooperating with local officials, the organizers of the memorial ceremony, and has been conducting respectful communication between the two governments.

At the same time, he said it would be regrettable if the Korean side missed the memorial service in this situation.

In any case, he explained that the memorial service will be held as scheduled, mainly by local officials, in accordance with the statement of the Japanese government representative of the World Heritage Committee in July.
