The National Agricultural Products Quality Management Institute said it has detected 125 companies violating the country of origin labeling after inspecting the distribution of kimchi and cabbage kimchi since the 10th of last month.
According to a survey of more than 24,000 restaurants, kimchi manufacturers, and distributors, 97 falsely marked the country of origin and 28 did not mark the country of origin at all.
However, in this inspection, there were no cases where imported fresh cabbage was sold as domestic.
The agricultural agency has decided to strengthen its crackdown on the country of origin until the kimchi-making is completed.
