The wholesale and retail business, which has a large number of employed people in their teens and 20s, has seen its employment backpedal for eight months this year.

This is due to the sluggish domestic demand and structural factors such as unmanned and online conversion.

The worsening employment in wholesale and retail has also affected the decline in new hiring for teens and 20s.

According to data from the National Statistical Office, 1.454 million new jobs were hired in the second quarter of this year, down 136,000 and 8.6% from the same period last year.

The number of new hires was the smallest since 2018 when related statistics were compiled.

Wholesale and retail businesses close to domestic demand fell from 220,000 to 200,000, while accommodation and restaurant businesses, manufacturing, and construction also saw a decrease in new employment under their 20s.

The decline in new jobs for young people is very rapid even considering changes in the population.

The youth population fell 2.9% in the second quarter of this year from the same period last year, while the new job losses reached 8.6%.

The downturn in the construction industry is also directly hitting the job market.

As of September, the number of employed in the construction industry was 2,057,000, down 4.6% from the same period last year.

It is the largest decline in 11 years and 8 months, and the number of employed in the construction industry has been on the back foot for six months this year. The cold spell in the

construction job market is caused by a sharp drop in construction investment due to a prolonged downturn in the construction industry.

The government said it will closely examine employment conditions in each sector and come up with measures to improve secondary social mobility to promote economic activities for vulnerable groups such as young people and women.
