Starting with the National Sports Festival in 1963, the demolition of Jeonju Stadium in Jeonbuk, which had been with Jeonju citizens for 61 years, began in earnest.

Jeonju City held a "Safety Prayer and Construction Ceremony for the Demolition Construction of Jeonju Stadium" on the site of Jeonju Stadium with 500 citizens and others attending.

The construction, which costs 10.4 billion won in total, will remove all of the main stadium and its attached buildings by the first half of next year.

By 2028, the site will be invested with 1.3 trillion won, including private investment, and will include an exhibition and convention center, a hotel, a department store, a Korean Cultural Center-type content experience exhibition hall, and a city art museum.

Jeonju Mayor Woo Bum-ki said, "The Jeonju Stadium will be reborn as a clear driving force for Jeonju's economy and the heart of the region in name and reality through the creation of the MICE complex," adding, "I believe it will revive the lagging regional economy and provide a foothold for Jeonju to move forward as an international city."
