Ambassador Cho said at a meeting of correspondents at the Korean Cultural Center in Washington, D.C., on the 25th local time that he will continue to strengthen the South Korea-U.S. alliance even after the inauguration of the second Trump administration.
Ambassador Cho said he will continue to closely consult with the U.S. to strengthen the South Korea-U.S. joint defense posture in the security situation on the Korean Peninsula, which has changed since the first Trump administration, including North Korea's close military ties to North Korea and Russia, North Korea's threat to the South, and the possibility of a major provocation by the U.S. administration.
He also evaluated that the first step was well-placed, saying that a phone call between President Yoon Suk Yeol and President-elect Trump took place on the 6th, when the results of the U.S. presidential election were confirmed, and that there was a practical exchange of opinions such as cooperation in the shipbuilding sector.
He then closely analyzed the impact of the change in economic and trade policy stance in the second Trump administration on our companies and said he would make necessary efforts to manage current economic issues such as tariffs and the IRA and create favorable conditions.
In particular, Korea ranked No. 1 in investment in the U.S. last year among countries in the world, adding that it will actively remind Korean companies of the importance of maintaining a stable investment environment.
