The U.S. federal court in Washington, D.C., rejected a criminal indictment in the case of President-elect Donald Trump's overturning of the presidential election results at the request of Special Counsel Jack Smith.

The Associated Press reported that Judge Tanya Chutkan decided to dismiss Smith after receiving his request.

As a result, local media said the special prosecutor's efforts to hold Trump accountable for his alleged reversal of the 2020 presidential election results will come to an end.

Earlier, Special Counsel Smith formally asked a Washington, D.C., court to dismiss the indictment in the "reversal of presidential election results" case in line with the non-prosecution policy against the sitting president.

It also demanded that the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals exclude Trump from the co-defendant in connection with the leak of confidential documents, and the court is expected to dismiss him soon.
