{Our Blues'} and 'It's Okay, It's Love', praised actors Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo's acting in the new film 'Trunk'. The director's praise, which lasted for nearly five minutes at the production presentation, once again raised expectations for actors who changed their faces.
The production presentation for the Netflix series "Trunk" was held at the Raum Art Center in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul at 11 a.m. today (26th). Director Kim Kyu-tae, who directed "Trunk," actors Seo Hyun-jin, Gong Yoo, Jung Yoon-ha, Jo Eon-gun, and Kim Dong-won attended to talk about the work.
The Netflix series "Trunk" is a mystery melodrama about a secret marriage service that begins to be revealed by a trunk floating on a lake and the strange marriage story of two men and women in it. It is the first series production by director Kim Kyu-tae in partnership with Netflix.
Director Kim Kyu-tae said, "I was fascinated by the unique charm of the work and directed it." He said, "When I first saw the script, there was something embarrassing. Obviously, it's fun and strange, but the psychology and relationship of the character in the play are not easily recognized. He said, "I started to fall in love with the work from the curiosity of 'What is this?' and gradually there was a consensus in psychology and relationships."
Actors Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo played characters with their respective secrets and losses and worked together on their main acting skills. Seo Hyun-jin plays an employee of a fixed-term marriage matching company NM (New Marriage), and Gong Yoo plays Han Jeong-won, a music producer who has been eroded by anxiety and loneliness due to past trauma.
Han Jeong-won reluctantly responds to the fixed-term marriage service she demanded to restore her relationship with her divorced wife, Lee Seo-yeon (Jeong Yoon-ha), and begins an awkward and uncomfortable cohabitation with No-ji. Although it is a marriage made up of a formal contract, Han Jeong-won's daily life changes little by little due to the old age.
The actors also said they were attracted to the uniqueness of this work alone. Seo Hyun-jin said, "There are many lines and spaces, so I wanted to try it because I thought it would depend on how I express it and who does it," and Gong Yoo said, "It would be fun to see that there can be many interpretations depending on the viewpoint."
The main actors also expressed their love for each other. Gong Yoo added, "I did it because it was like an opportunity to meet my favorite Oh Hae-young," and Seo Hyun-jin also mentioned each other's hits 'Again Oh Hae-young' and 'Goblin', creating warmth.
He also emphasized that he trusted each other and acted. Seo Hyun-jin said, "This time, I really trusted you and the director a lot on the spot. I wanted to throw it all away and go and do it well as it is. "I was curious about what the results would be when I exchanged lines with (Share) seniors," he said.
They agreed that the view of the work was the same. Seo Hyun-jin said, "I was talking about the script, and it was interesting because my thoughts were similar," and Gong Yoo said, "When I was interviewing foreign media, when I saw Hyun-jin, he told me exactly what I thought." So I thought, "Seo Hyun-jin and I were able to do this work."
Director Kim praised Seo Hyun-jin's performance. He said, "Trunk has a strange tone and manner, and I was inspired by an actor as a director. There were gods who were amazed that they could show their immersion and breathe energy like that. I loved the way they varied, he said, raising expectations for the work.
As for Gong Yoo, "Considering the existing aura, I wondered if it would be suitable for expressing such a deficient person. I felt that the character I saw on the script was upgraded through the actor. There is purity in acting, and I enjoy the scene. It makes me care to merge with the character in the play," he praised.
In particular, director Kim was asked about Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo's acting and continued to praise them for nearly five minutes, which was unusual at the production presentation. When Park Kyung-rim, the broadcaster who hosted the event, said, "I ask for more next time," director Kim said, "It was really good. It was the best," he added, drawing laughter.
'Trunk' features an interesting setting called 'term marriage'. Regarding this, director Kim explained, "Viewers may think that it is stimulating, but in the work, it is a setting that mediates the subjective part of finding the real thing in the fake, which is realistic in unrealistic conditions."
Seo Hyun-jin also said, "It is not a drama that challenges the marriage system and asks whether it is really right. Since it is such a stimulating setting, it can only be focused on that, but when I acted, I thought that fixed-term marriage was only used as a device. Rather, I focused on what comes out when I maximize the emotions of abyss by giving each character," he added.
The Netflix series 'Trunk' will be released at 5 p.m. on the 29th.
