Minister Kim said at a discussion on continuing employment plans hosted by the Korea Labor Institute today that unions are all talking about extending the retirement age, and I want to see and ask the chairmen.
He also mentioned that even after graduating from Meister High School, he felt sorry and heartache when he saw young people unable to enter Hyundai or Kia Motors.
He added that he doesn't think reforms that eliminate young people's employment opportunities are reforms, adding that young people should be given at least one opportunity to experience decent work.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor says it needs to adjust working conditions, including the overhaul of the wage system, for continued employment, but it is closely confronting the labor community, which insists on extending the legal retirement age in the current form of work.
