The arrest warrant for the head of the work team who set up an illegal watchtower was rejected as residents staged an indefinite sit-in over the redevelopment of Guryong Village in Gaepo-dong, the last shanty town in Gangnam, Seoul.

The Seoul Central District Court rejected the arrest warrant yesterday (26th), saying that the crime was fully clarified after questioning the suspect before arresting A, and that it is difficult to say that there is a fear of destroying evidence or running away.

A is accused of building a 10-meter-high steel structure without permission with five foreign workers at the entrance of Guryong Village on the 23rd.

They were arrested as current offenders at the scene of a rally held by more than 200 residents against the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Gangnam-gu Office at the time, demanding the issuance of resident confirmation documents.

Guryong Village's apartment development plan was passed in May, and residents are protesting the move and demanding compensation such as the right to sell.
