Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bagai issued a statement shortly after the ceasefire came into force, saying he "welcomes the ceasefire" and "strongly supports the Lebanese government, the people and their resistance."
Earlier, Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a cease-fire that calls for a 60-day halt to fighting and for both sides to step back from southern Lebanon.
Iran, which has been at odds with Israel for a long time, has provided weapons and money to Hezbollah.
