6.4-magnitude earthquake off Japan's Noto Peninsula...There's no fear of a tsunami.

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck western waters of Japan's Noto Peninsula, where a strong earthquake occurred on New Year's Day.

The Japan Meteorological Administration announced that a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck west of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture at 10:47 p.m. last night.

The earthquake was centered 51 kilometers north-northwest of Kanazawa City in Ishikawa Prefecture, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

Japan's Meteorological Agency said there was no concern about tsunamis from the earthquake.

The earthquake shook Wajima City and Shikamachi on the Noto Peninsula with a magnitude of 5.

Unlike the scale that means absolute intensity, magnitude, which is the earthquake rating of the Japan Meteorological Administration, is a relative concept that numerically shows the feelings of people in the area and the degree of shaking of surrounding objects.

The magnitude 5 is a shaking that most people feel fear and the tableware or books on the shelf fall.

Earlier on January 1 this year, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula, which has killed a total of 426 people, including disaster-related deaths.
