Russia's state-run TAS news agency reported on the 27th that a member of Ukraine's ruling party recommended U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Citing Ukrainian online news website Channel 24, Tas news agency said Oleksandr Merezko, a member of the ruling party's "People's Bell," wrote to Norway's Nobel Committee to recommend Trump as a candidate for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.

At the same time, he criticized it as a courtship attempt to change Trump's mind, which is likely to stop providing military aid to Ukraine if he returns to power.

"Trump has contributed greatly to world peace," Merezko wrote in the letter, adding that "more could be done in the future."

"Trump has laid the foundation for an international coalition supporting Ukraine today by demonstrating international leadership in the supply of weapons," Trump also praised the U.S. export of Jablin anti-tank missiles to Ukraine during his first term in office.

However, it seems that Trump did not recommend it purely because he judged that he was qualified enough to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Rep. Merezko told local Ukrainian media outlet Kyiv Independent, "I want to use Trump's attention as an opportunity to help Ukraine survive."

Earlier, the Washington Post (WP), a major U.S. daily, quoted sources as saying that Ukrainian politicians and businessmen are persuading Trump by offering natural gas and lithium buried in Ukraine in exchange.
