ICC chief seeks arrest warrant for Myanmar junta chief

Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, ICC in The Hague, the Netherlands, sought an arrest warrant for Myanmar's junta chief Min Aung Hlaing on charges of crimes against humanity against minority Rohingya on the 27th local time.Chief prosecutor

Hlaing is accused of leading the subjugation of the Rohingya, an Islamic minority in western Myanmar, in the second half of 2017 and forcing more than 1 million people to migrate.

The ICC prosecutor's office, which launched an investigation in 2019, requested an arrest warrant for the first time in five years.

In response, the Myanmar military government protested that Myanmar is not a member of the ICC and has never acknowledged its decision.

According to the request for an arrest warrant, three ICC judges will examine whether it is issued or not.

The screening period is not set, and the issuance of a warrant for Russian President Putin took about three weeks and Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu more than six months.
