Five countries, including South Korea, held an intergovernmental negotiation committee to end plastic pollution, gathered together to find ways to cooperate for the conclusion of the agreement.

The Ministry of Environment announced on the 26th that the chief representatives of the host countries had a dinner at the invitation of our chief representative, Environment Minister Kim Wan-seop.

The plastic agreement remains in the draft stage due to disagreements between countries, and our country has proposed a compromise that fully contributes to ending plastic pollution but considers the implementation of each country.

The compromise calls for general guidelines for major plastic regulations to give autonomy to design specific policies through voluntary national measures, such as national implementation plans, while maintaining the legal binding force of the agreement.

The chief delegates shared their positions on the key negotiating issues selected by the countries and plan to summarize them and deliver them to the negotiating committee chairman, Luis Bayas Valvidierso.
