The Gyeongsangbuk-do Election Commission said it will hold another election on April 2 next year after Gimcheon Mayor Kim Choong-sup's election was confirmed invalid.

In addition, all 140 million won, including deposits returned to Mayor Kim and campaign expenses compensation, will be collected.

Earlier today (28th), the Supreme Court confirmed the original ruling that sentenced Mayor Kim, who was indicted on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act, to two years in prison and three years of probation.

Mayor Kim was put on trial in 2021 on charges of mobilizing city government officials to give 66 million won worth of gifts and rice cakes to more than 1,800 local residents around the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays.
