Previously, Koreans had a unified format of name notation and resident registration number, but foreigners had difficulty performing their duties because each administrative agency had different ways of marking personal information.
The Ministry of Justice has been pushing for a government proposal to unify information such as English names on the passports of foreigners entering the country and provide it to administrative agencies in accordance with international standards.
The Ministry of Justice explained that under the bill, it will be able to cope with administrative tasks such as managing delinquents and responding to infectious diseases more efficiently by establishing a basic foreign personal information system and linking systems of other agencies.
