The prosecution asked the court to sentence former Vice President Kim to 12 years in prison and a fine of 380 million won at a final hearing held at the Seoul High Court today (28th).
Prosecutors said former Vice Chairman Kim undermined public trust in the transparency of the presidential election, stressing that he should not give leniency to the accused who denies the crime.
On the other hand, former Vice Chairman Kim mentioned the omission of the prosecution's interview report and said that the moment he became so biased, all social structures would be broken.
The court will proceed with the appeals court's sentence at 2 p.m. on February 6 next year.
Kim is accused of accepting 840 million won in the name of presidential funds from Nam Wook, a private businessman in Daejang-dong, between April and August 2021, before and after the Democratic presidential primary.
The first trial sentenced Kim to five years in prison and a fine of 70 million won for acknowledging that he received 600 million won in illegal political funds.
