2019 Sangju-Yeongcheon Expressway Accident Causes Black Ice
The tangled car caught fire...Seven dead, 41 injured.
Large-scale traffic accidents are repeated every winter due to thin ice on the road, so-called black ice.
It's hard to see, so it's called the 'Hassel on the Road'.
Reporter Hong Sung-wook will tell you how to deal with it.

A series of crashes involving more than 40 vehicles.
The road was chaotic as it overlapped with the way home from work.
The cause is thin ice on the road where the fallen snow melts and freezes again, so-called 'black ice'.
Major accidents caused by black ice are repeated every winter.
The 43-car collision on the Sangju-Yeongcheon Expressway occurred in December 2019.
The cars in a series of crashes caught fire in a tangle, and some drivers were unable to get out.
In the end, it led to seven deaths and 41 injuries. It rained the day before the
accident, and the temperature fell below zero in the early morning hours, but there was no snow removal spray.
[accident truck driver (last December 2019): (My car) I applied the brake slightly, and the car hit and bounced off without needing a brake, and when I got out of the car, it was all ice.]
As a result of YTN's black ice risk experiment with a specialized agency earlier this year, the braking distance was 16.7m when driving at 40km/h, which was more than twice as long as the normal road, and the braking distance exceeded 37m at 50km/h.
Above all, it is more dangerous because it is impossible to predict when and where it will occur.
It's called an assassin on the road because it's hard to see.
To avoid accidents, the answer is to maintain a safe distance and slow down after snow or rain in winter.
You have to be more careful, especially when you go through the tunnel.
[Lee Young-joo/Professor of Fire and Disaster Prevention at Kyungil University: There are many cases where molten water from outside freezes around the entrance to the inside of the tunnel when there is a cloud inside the tunnel and there is sunlight outside, so you should pay special attention to driving safely and preventing slipping.]
If the asphalt sparkles when you turn on the upward light, you must decelerate to where the black ice has formed.
If you slip without noticing in advance, you must use the engine brake instead of pushing the brake hard, and operate the steering wheel in the opposite direction by sliding to reduce damage.
Above all, it is better not to check the weather forecast and hold the steering wheel because the temperature drops after snow or rain.
