The so-called Four Agricultural Laws, including the Grain Management Act promoted by the Democratic Party of Korea, passed the plenary session of the National Assembly amid opposition from the people.

Non-controversial bills on people's livelihoods, such as a special law to support the Gyeongju APEC Summit and a revision to the law that laid the basis for confiscation and collection of "deepfake" criminal proceeds, were also dealt with.

The "Four Agricultural Laws," including the revision of the Grain Management Act, which was abolished by President Yoon Suk Yeol's right to request reconsideration, or veto, has crossed the threshold of the plenary session led by the opposition party.

The grain management law requires the government to purchase excess production if rice prices plunge, and the law on agricultural and fishery distribution and price stability calls for the government to compensate for the difference if major agricultural prices fall below the standard.

[Won-Sik Woo / Speaker of the National Assembly: 173 in favor, 80 against, and one abstaining, declaring that alternatives to partial amendments to the grain management law have been approved]

The Democratic Party of Korea believes that rice purchase and agricultural and fishery products price stabilizers are necessary to preserve rice prices and stabilize farms.

The ruling party, on the other hand, has opposed rice farmers, saying they can become less competitive and there are issues of equity between crops.

[Park Chan-dae / Minjoo Party floor leader: We hope that it will be a great help to farmers and rural areas who are saddened by the plunge in rice prices for the first time in 45 years]

[Choo Kyung-ho / Floor Leader of People's Power: Despite our opposition in the standing committee including the Grain Management Act, the opposition party's unilateral enforcement....]

People's livelihood bills without issues also passed the plenary session.

The APEC Special Act to support preparations for the 2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit, the revision of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, which allows the confiscation or additional collection of criminal proceeds such as "deepfake" false videos, and the revision of the Immigration Control Act, which laid the foundation for the establishment of an administrative information system for collecting and managing foreigners' information.

Legislations known to be close to each other, such as the Depositor Protection Act and the revision of the Elderly Welfare Act, are also expected to be processed within the regular session of the National Assembly, which is due on the 10th of next month.
