The road to the mountain for forest management and forest fire extinguishing, "Limdo," is considered the cause of the large-scale landslide.

There are many areas where private houses are located just below the forest road, so there are voices that safety measures should be prepared.

Reporter Kim Geun-woo covered the scene.

The hillside was deeply dug as if it had been scratched by something.

When I came down the valley, I found a private house.

Last summer, a mountain collapsed in torrential rain hit the town, killing two residents.

That's where the landslide started. After the accident, the shaft and drainage channels were restored, but the traces of the soil being swept away are still clear.

The National Institute of Disaster and Safety pointed to Imdo as the cause of the village's landslide.

As the forest road is made by cutting the middle of the mountain, if it rains a lot and overflows, the surrounding soil can collapse and lead to landslides.

[Hard / Gamcheon-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do: I think there are many other areas where landslides can occur like this. Now, shouldn't we focus on such areas and do so so that they don't suffer such damage?.]

Since 2015, there have been more than 1,100 landslides caused by forest roads.

In particular, more than 1,900 private houses under 720 forest roads were exposed to the risk of landslides.

However, there are many places where measures are insufficient, such as maintaining drainage systems due to lack of manpower and budget.

[Park Eun-jung/Green Alliance's Natural Ecology Team Leader: It's a very problem to leave the forest roads that can't be managed right now, and to announce that it will be newly built this much because it's helpful for forest fires..]

The forest road in mountainous areas across the country reaches 25,000km, and hundreds of kilometers are newly installed every year.

The Korea Forest Service denied that the forest road was the cause of the landslide, but said it would expand the budget for structural improvement to strengthen safety.
