The U.S. has decided to sell $680 million worth of weapons to Israel.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the 28th local time that the Biden administration recently notified Congress of its plan to sell weapons.

The U.S. has continued to sell weapons to Israel, a key Middle East ally, and under federal arms export control laws, the administration must obtain congressional approval before selling them to foreign countries.

The weapon the U.S. is trying to sell to Israel this time is an integrated precision direct attack (JDAM) device, which turns a so-called "bump bomb" that has no ability to guide and fly to the target into a precision-guided bomb.

In addition, the U.S. plans to export small-caliber bombs (SDBs) to Israel, which have reduced the weight of bombs and increased their downhill range.

The two weapons Israel has requested to sell to the United States to streamline its military operational capabilities, which exported $260 million to Israel last summer as well.

The Biden administration's decision to export weapons was reportedly made in late October before Israel agreed a ceasefire with Lebanon's armed faction Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on the 26th, "The problem will be solved soon, and through the supply of advanced weapons, the Israeli military will have the destructive power to safely carry out its mission."
