It's the coldest morning of the year. You should be careful because there are many icy roads.
[Anchor]
I heard it snows again on the way home from work. I'll look into the weather in detail. YTN Disaster Adviser, Airport. I'm connected. You're out, right?
[Airport Jin]
Hello,
[Anchor]
How are you? After the heavy snow, another cold wave came right away, and it is said to be the coldest morning this year. What's the reason?
[Airport Jin]
Looking at it this morning, the sky blue color has changed. The air has changed, too. The sky blue became a little bluish, so the clouds softened a lot, and the air became colder. The lowest temperature in Seoul fell to minus 3.4 degrees this morning, but as of 8 o'clock. It's about 3-4 degrees lower than yesterday. It is about minus 10-15 degrees Celsius in inland Gyeonggi-do and mountainous areas of Gangwon-do. It has the lowest temperature distribution in November.
It's no exaggeration to say that winter has begun now. The reason why the air became cold and the cold came was that the upper layer, which had been sprinkling a lot of snow until yesterday, so the low pressure from about 5km above, receded to the east. So the direction of the wind changed a little bit, and right next to this low pressure, so the cold air coming from right behind came to our country, you can see it like this.
So now, when the cold comes, it has returned to its typical form, and the weather is recovering a little bit. I don't think this cold will last long. I think the temperature will be a little bit today on the weekend.
[Anchor]
I told you that there have been a lot of car accidents, but especially if it gets cold again after humid snow like today and the road freezes, wouldn't the road conditions be slippery? What should I do to prepare for an accident?
[Airport Jin]
First of all, you'll have to slow down while driving. And it's better to keep a safe distance. In particular, you shouldn't step on a sudden brake. The car is spinning. So, if possible, it's better to travel at a low speed and maintain a sufficient distance from the car in front of you. Especially in the case of frequently passing roads, we sense some danger, but we don't know the new roads.
So, it is necessary to look at these roads in advance, but bridges and overpasses have cold air coming in from below, so the temperature drops sharply. So be careful in these places. Especially at the entrance of the tunnel, there is also a difference between the outside and the inside air. That's why it's hard to notice. If it's slightly frozen, it's hard to see. So you have to be careful.
Especially in shaded areas, there is no sunlight. So, even if other areas are dry, thin ice can suddenly appear if you go into the shade. So you should be careful about this, especially in the sharp curve section, it is easy to cause sliding accidents due to low heat of friction in the vehicle, so you should be careful.
Recently, the Korea Meteorological Administration and Korea Expressway Corporation and government agencies collaborate with each other, so we use apps and navigation a lot. Dangerous areas are sometimes marked on the navigation system, but the complete system has not been established yet, so anyway, it would be better to check in advance where the dangerous section is.
And when you walk on the icy road, not a vehicle, you have to move your hands freely because it's slippery, but it's dangerous for those who carry their hands in their pockets. And when walking, it would be better to keep your feet spread out in a V-shape and keep your center of gravity on your front foot to keep your steps short and slow. And if you have a cane, using a cane or stick to balance it will be good wisdom to prevent such sliding accidents.

I think you should be more careful on your way home from work, but I heard that it's going to snow again on your way home from work in Seoul, how long is it coming?
[Airport Jin]
The weather has changed a little today. So, the very bad weather is a bit of a dying atmosphere, and because of this, it is said to snow in the afternoon, but the amount of snow is not expected to be that large. In the case of Seoul, it is about 1 to 3cm, and in the Seoul metropolitan area and southern Gyeonggi Province, it is about 3cm. Of course, according to today's forecast, the temperature of the video is in Seoul or other parts of Gyeonggi-do.
However, the temperature drops when the sun goes down and the sun goes down on the way home from work, so there is a high possibility that it will freeze slightly from the ground. So, even if 1 to 3cm accumulates, areas that do not snow quickly may suffer additional damage from sliding, so you should prepare for these things.
[Anchor]
However, if it snows even a little in a situation where wet snow falls and the surface of the ground is frozen to some extent like today, there will be a situation to be more careful.
[Airport Jin]
That's right. First of all, when snow builds up on the ice, it's hard to see. It's more likely to slip because you can't see it. And the snow that fell this time is very humid. It's very humid snow, so if it melts, melts, and freezes, it gets slippery. So, even if there is a very slight accumulation of snow, it would be better to walk carefully and drive carefully, and check the places where there is a lot of snow so that it doesn't collapse.

Heavy snow has fallen throughout the country, including the metropolitan area, over the past two days, and Busan is attracting attention. Busan is the only sunny day, so there are even comments such as "The Korean Peninsula tiger is tangled up and heated up," but why was the weather so different in Busan?
[Airport Jin]
The center of the low pressure that was lowered this time was in the north. So, the range of low pressure has mainly affected the northern part of the south, and in the case of Busan, Korea, it is the southeastern end of Korea. This part of the country was kind of out of the direct sphere of influence.
So, it's not that the topographic influence is very different, but because Busan was out of its sphere of influence, it showed clear weather. So I know that the temperature has probably risen high. Therefore, rather than a special weather, it is judged that the influence of the low pressure that brought heavy snow this time did not affect Busan.
[Anchor]
We sent the screen in Busan several times while talking to the committee member, but unlike other areas where heavy snow fell, Busan enjoyed surfing and some people enjoyed the beach, so we asked this question because the weather was so contradictory. However, since the beginning of winter, there has been such a record-breaking snowfall at first sight, so what is the reason for this? Isn't it because it's too hot in the summer? What do you think?
[Airport Jin]
As the earth got hotter, especially the sea got a lot hotter. So the sea surface temperature in the ocean increased. So, it is true that the average sea surface temperature in Korea is slightly higher than the average sea surface temperature for the past 30 years and now. So, it's now about 15 degrees Celsius, and if the sea level temperature is high like this, the difference in properties from the cold air from the north increases.
So, snow that brought a lot of heavy snow usually approaches from the sea in the west, but how much snow is made when it approaches from the sea. And how water vapor is supplied. These are important factors, and in this case, the sea surface temperature in the West Sea of Korea is high, so more snow clouds have been created and more moisture has been supplied. In a way, it's my first time experiencing this.
It's not the first time to experience snow as it passes through the sea, but it's almost unusual for the first snow to spray more than 40cm of snow at once. So in the future, it is highly likely that these unusual phenomena will occur a little more frequently as the Earth heats up and the sea surface temperature rises. So I think we need to prepare stronger than before.
[Anchor]
You said that there is some possibility of heavy snow depending on the sea level temperature. If you look at the weather last week, there were forsythia's flight, so I thought, "Is this winter weather?" But this week's weather has changed so much. There is also a prediction that the weather will continue to run around in such a hot and cold bath, do you agree with this part?
[Airport Jin]
As expected, abnormal climate phenomena occur frequently as the earth heats up. Because of this, on average, the average weather is only slightly different in terms of temperature or sea level temperature, but the problem is that the difference between very hot and very cold in terms of temperature is getting worse than the average.
So it's worse than what we've been talking about in general, which is predictable weather events. So, as I said a while ago, the forecast was about 10cm of snow that could be scattered by snow clouds coming from the West Sea. The 10cm forecast must have been cautious because it was actually an inexperienced forecast, but in reality, 40cm of snow fell.
As the amplitude increases, the amplitude of the abnormal climate increases, and the possibility of many special weather events and abnormal weather events is increasing. Korea is suffering from heavy snow, but Spain is suffering from heavy rain in the south. If you look at it locally, you can see that we are experiencing weather events that we have not experienced before, and this will probably become commonplace in the future, so it's likely to happen often.
[Anchor]
Some of the characteristics of this heavy snow were hail in some areas before the heavy snow fell. And it was especially wet snow. You mentioned that there will be many variables in this winter. Can we predict these variables such as hail or continuing wet snow?
[Airport Jin]
We can't rule out the possibility. If you look at the Korea Meteorological Administration's long-term forecast, December and January will be similar to the average year, and February will be higher than the average year. It is most likely that the weather will continue to be cold and hot rather than very cold or very warm.
As I said earlier, there are some aspects that are cautious to talk about this and that because the first weather phenomena appear frequently. What's important is that when you look at the areas where the earth heats up in general and the sea surface temperature rises, the sea surface temperature tends to rise along the coast of Northeast Asia, then New York and Washington, and the Mediterranean Sea, where many people live together.
So one of the things that climatologists are paying close attention to this year is sea level temperature. There are also very strange weather events due to changes in sea surface temperature. This year, the sea level in the Atlantic Ocean suddenly dropped.
So recently, climatologists are paying attention to the Atlantic Ocean. Europe is at a higher latitudes than Korea, and the reason why it is warm is that warm water is supplied, but the movement of the current has weakened a little. It is a very cautious situation because there are predictions that Europe will be colder.
An unpredictable weather phenomenon because the climate pattern surrounding our country is also a little different from the old climate pattern. It is better to prepare thoroughly for such things as heavy snow or strong cold.
[Anchor]
I see. Let's stop here. So far, I've been with YTN Disaster Advisory Committee member, Airportjin. Thank you.
