Next year's government budget, which only reflects the opposition's opinion on the reduction without an increase, passed the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts led by the opposition Democratic Party of Korea.

The Budget and Accounts Committee held a general meeting and voted on a budget plan that was cut by about KRW 4.1 trillion from the original plan of KRW 677.4 trillion submitted by the government.

Members of the ruling People's Power Party did not participate in the vote, protesting the opposition's unilateral handling of the reduced budget.

According to the reduced items, 58.7 billion won in specific work expenses and special activities of the prosecution, 6 billion won in special expenses and special activities of the Board of Audit and Inspection, 8.2 billion won in special activities of the presidential office, and 3.1 billion won in special police activities were cut.

In addition, the government's reserve fund of 2.4 trillion won and the treasury bond interest repayment budget were reduced by 500 billion won.

Under the Constitution, the National Assembly can reduce the government's budget bill, but the increase or establishment of a new budget must be approved by the government.

When the ruling and opposition parties did not reach an agreement by the deadline for the budget committee's activities, which ends today (29th), the Democratic Party gave up the increase in the budget for "local currency," a policy focused on the party, and pushed ahead with the budget plan that only reflected the reduction.

This is the first time that the National Assembly Budget Committee has approved a government budget that reflects only the reduction without an increase.
