Unfamiliar music flows through the constitutional square in front of the presidential palace in the center of Guatemala City, the capital of Guatemala.
Following the national anthem, exciting K-pop dances and a taekwondo performance with theft.
It is a Korean Culture Week event hosted by the Korean Embassy in Guatemala and organized by our compatriots.
[Kim Se-yoon / Guatemalan compatriots: When Guatemalan teenagers danced with K-pop songs, I was so moved and touched as a compatriot who lived for 18 years. I'm so proud of myself.]
The procession to taste Korean food continues, and traditional Korean games such as yutnori and tuho are also fun.
The culture of the opposite country of the world is unfamiliar, but it doesn't matter how old, gender, or nationality you enjoy K-culture.
[Kelly / Guatemalan citizen: It was good to know various Korean cultures. Korea (culture) is taking root in Guatemala, and I enjoy Korean food, especially kimbap.]
For the first time, Guatemala City Hall also helped this year's event.
As many as 2,000 people visited to enjoy the cultural exchange between the two countries.
[Maria Jose / Guatemala City Director of History and Culture: I am very happy to hold an event with Koreans and to have the opportunity for citizens to experience different cultures. I'm very envious that Korean culture is reaching and changing our young people. The local people's interest in Korean culture, which began with the Korean Wave, such as
K-pop and Korean dramas, has a positive effect on the Korean community.
It is also helping the people of the two countries understand each other and deepen their friendship.
[Min Kyung-mi / Korean Volunteer] In the past, I used to tease Koreans like this. But now, I think I've become an object of envy. I think it's so nice that so many things have changed.]
[Kim Deuk-hwan / Korean Ambassador to Guatemala: We want to make every effort to help both countries enter a more mature stage of development by understanding each other]
Our embassy and Guatemala City Hall said they hope that Korean Culture Week events will continue to be held in the future, and will not spare the necessary support.
