On the 10th, President Yoon Suk Yeol, who turned the halfway point of his term in office, declared a break in polarization through the second half of the state administration.
It aims to strengthen the middle class through policies that improve the lives of ordinary people.
[Yoon Suk Yeol / President (last month on the 22nd): In the second half of the year, all the people have hope for the future due to the overcoming of polarization... We will definitely revive people's livelihoods and economic vitality to open a new middle class era.]
However, after Chairman Lee Jae-myung's acquittal in the first trial of the perjury teacher case early last week, the opposition party's offensive has intensified, making it difficult to fully focus on policies.
The opposition party has set the re-vote of the Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor Act for the 10th, and is increasing the level of pressure on President Yoon and his wife by unilaterally handling the permanent special prosecution without the president's veto.
[Lee Jae-myung / Democratic Party leader (last month's 28th): It's clear that it's a stock manipulation (related to Sambu Construction). Since the permanent special prosecutor is promoting it, I think there will be tangible results. The diplomatic situation with the United States and Japan is also increasing uncertainty at a time when
{Strengthening cooperation between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan' is a major achievement in the first half of the year.
As U.S. President-elect Trump said he would impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, Korean companies' exports to the U.S. also turned on a red light, lowering their growth forecasts.
[Lee Chang-yong / Governor of the Bank of Korea (April 28): The export growth rate is expected to be significantly lower than expected, reflecting some of the uncertainties in the trade environment that have grown since Trump's election.]
On top of that, the approval rating, which was likely to rise after the public apology, slowed down again and reached the 10% range.
Kim came down from the top cause of negative evaluation by stopping external activities, but negative public opinion about the economy and people's livelihoods increased, and dissatisfaction with diplomacy increased.
Amid the controversy over the diplomatic failure of the Sado mine memorial ceremony, Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba is reportedly pushing for a visit to Korea early next year.
As there is a limit to finding a breakthrough through diplomacy, the burden of personnel reform is expected to increase.
