Thailand's Defense Ministry said three Myanmar naval patrol accounts fired at Thai fishing boats that were operating in Myanmar's territorial waters near the southwestern province of Lanong on the 30th local time.
In the process, three fishermen jumped into the water, one drowned, two were rescued by the Thai navy, and a ship carrying 31 fishermen was detained by Myanmar's navy.
The Thai navy is negotiating for the release of the detained personnel.
Thai fishing boats often continue to operate in Myanmar's waters, which have more fish resources than in Thai waters, in defiance of warnings from Myanmar authorities.
