66 diseases, including "acute keratosis" and "inferiority," have been newly designated as rare diseases subject to national management.

As a result, the number of rare diseases subject to state management has been expanded from 1,248 to 1,314.

According to the Rare Disease Control Act, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates diseases with less than 20,000 patients in Korea or whose size is unknown due to difficulty in diagnosis as rare diseases and lowers the out-of-pocket expenses to 10% of the total medical expenses.

In the past year of 2022, the number of new patients with rare diseases was 54,000, with an average medical fee of 6.39 million won per person, of which 660,000 won was paid by the patient.
