The world's first clean hydrogen power generation market will be fully operational in 2028.

Korea Southern Power Co., a public power generation company under Korea Electric Power Corp., has been finally decided as the first participant in the world's first clean hydrogen power generation bidding market.

Southern Power will develop into clean hydrogen-based ammonia for 15 years from 2028 after preparation periods such as infrastructure construction and generator modification, supplying power at a fixed price.

Korea is the first country in the world to open and operate a commercial power generation market using clean hydrogen in a thermal power plant that emits a large amount of carbon.

The government plans to expand the clean hydrogen bidding market in the future to reach 13 TWh (terawatt hour) in 2030, more than the city's annual electricity consumption as of 2022.
