The leaders of Russia and Iran have expressed strong support for the Syrian government over the situation in Syria, where civil war has intensified again.Russian President Vladimir Putin

and Iranian President Masud Pejeshikyan said in a phone call that "the two leaders have expressed their unconditional support for the actions of the legitimate Syrian government," the Kremlin said.

"The two leaders have committed to supporting President Bashar al-Assad's actions to restore constitutional order and stabilize Syria despite the rebel offensive in northwest Syria," the Kremlin said.

HTS-led rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an Islamic militant group based in northwestern Syria, took control of major strongholds in the northwestern provinces of Aleppo and Idlib on the 30th of last month and advanced to the central province of Hamah.

Russian troops, who are helping the Syrian government, conducted airstrikes with Syrian Air Force in northern Hamaju to prevent a rebel advance.

Another backer, Iran, was also detected, with a pro-Iranian militant group in Iraq crossing the border into northern Syria the night before to support Syrian government forces, Reuters reported.

HTS joined a small group of anti-government militants backed by Turkiye and launched a massive offensive on the 27th of last month.

Turkiye is supporting some rebel groups in northwestern Syria to keep the Kurds in check in the country, which it defines as a "terrorist group."

Earlier in the day, the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom urged all parties to stop escalation and protect civilians in a joint statement to prevent further refugees.
