"I just rested." This year, the number of young people who don't look for jobs and just take a break has increased rapidly.

Most of them were experienced in employment, so why did they go back to being "just resting" young people after working?

Let's take a look.

The 'rested' population refers to non-economically inactive people who do not participate in the labor market without any special reason or education or training.

According to the Bank of Korea report, the "rested" population among young people aged 25 to 34 increased by more than 25% from 330,000 in the third quarter of last year to 420,000 in a year.

However, it turns out that many of the 'resting young people' who have increased so rapidly have experienced working.

The resting population of young people with employment experience led to a 30% increase in youth in a year,

In other words, it's not that they don't look for jobs from the beginning, but that the number of people who quit and take a break after getting a job has increased.

What could it be for?

First of all, it is analyzed that the quality of employment does not match their eye level.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the quality of employment for young people has been on the decline as the number of regular workers has decreased and temporary and daily positions have increased.

The downward employment rate is also over 20%, with the academic background of employed people higher than that required by jobs.

Due to the so-called 'job mismatch' and 'overspecs', many people give up their employment or quit even after they get a job.

The concern is that these young people's 'rest' condition is prolonged.

This is because if the resting state is prolonged, there is a greater possibility of becoming a "NEET" who does not permanently leave the labor market, receive no education, and do not look for jobs.

Japan, a representative low-growth country, is still a problem as the number of Nits, which has increased since the collapse of the bubble economy in the past, has not entered the job market.

It is time for an alternative to correct the reality that young people, who are the driving force for growth, are resting in our society with low-growth warning lights.
