Hwang In-yeop met with YTN at a cafe in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 29th of last month. JTBC's drama "The Assembly Family," in which he starred, ended with a 3.7% viewership rating in the final episode on the 27th of last month. Hwang In-yeop, whom I met after the end of the show, told a variety of stories from the preparation process of the work to the behind-the-scenes stories of the shooting.
He played the role of Kim San-ha in "The Assembling Family." Kim San-Ha is a person who was deeply hurt by the unfavorable family history when he was young. The family came down to Haedong for a new start, but the mother left after divorcing her father, and San-Ha, who was lonely, recovers his wounds as he gets closer to Yoon Joo-won (Jung Chae-won), who lives downstairs.
Hwang In-yeop, who began filming in the winter of 2022, cranked up last summer, and spent nearly two years until the end of his work, seemed to have yet to let Kim San-ha go in his mind. He said, "It was a work of affection. I was sad once at the end of the shoot, but now the work itself is over, so I cried a lot at the end of the show."
The chemistry between the fellow actors and the production team was so good that it was too bad to let them go. Hwang In-yeop said, "We got along very well because there were a lot of people who were safe. Since our drama contains the theme of family and love, I wanted to do what I wanted to express well, but beyond that, the relationship became stronger and stronger," he said.
The redemption narratives of three young people in the play, Kim San-ha, Kang Hae-joon, and Yoon Joo-won, were also enthusiastically supported by fans. In particular, there were even suspicions that Hwang In-yeop and Jung Chae-yeon were actually dating as they unraveled the narratives of Kim San-ha and Yoon Joo-won, who realized their love for each other after a long time, lyrical and delicate.
In response, Hwang In-yup laughed, saying, "I'm sorry if you've looked at me like that." He then said, "I'm so grateful that you're so immersed in it, and I think it's a compliment. Chae-yeon said that she was excited about the kiss scene, so I think the suspicion got bigger, but the director made the atmosphere soft and created a situation where the excitement was inevitable," he said.
The three actors actually became close enough to keep in touch and make appointments even after the broadcast was over. Hwang In-yeop said, "I was sad because I felt a sense of loss because it seemed to become the past because 'assembly family' ended. It was empty, so I took a picture and sent it to you, but everyone was like that. I said, "I don't think it's going to pass easily, so let's talk a lot."
He then said, "I tell them not to do the next work. Let's all take a rest together," he said with a smile. He said, "Now that I've done it with them once, other works have to be matched. "I'm jealous and jealous that the people I'm going to be with are these friends," he said, expressing his deep regret for the end of the show, drawing laughter.
Hwang was the first to choose his next film, although he joked to his fellow actors to take a rest together. In "Dear X," he said, "I play the opposite of the color I've shown so far. I'm imagining a cool, scarred, empty figure. It is an honor to appear in director Lee Eung-bok's work, he said, asking for expectations.
Lastly, regarding the direction of dreaming as an actor in the future, "This 'assembly family' focused on the story of family, so there were few romance elements. Next time, I want to try a bright and bouncy romantic comedy. I think melodrama would be good," he said, making him look forward to a new look.
