The Ministry of Unification said this month marks the 10th year since Choi Chun-gil was detained in North Korea and urged the North to immediately and unconditionally release South Koreans who are being held illegally.

In a spokesman statement released today, the Ministry of Unification said that six South Koreans, including Choi, are currently detained in North Korea.

He then stressed that the North Korean authorities strongly condemn the continued arbitrary detention of South Koreans without a fair public trial and without guaranteeing procedural justice in the process of arrest and detention.

Earlier, missionary Choi was illegally arrested by the North Korean authorities in 2014 and sentenced to imprisonment for labor the following year.
