Kyoto News Agency reported that a Japanese government official was "surprised" by President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of emergency martial law.

The official continued, "We will keep an eye on the situation in the future," adding, "We have been paying attention to how President Yoon will overcome his low approval rating, but we have not thought about how it will come out this way."

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also responded, "I don't know the details of what happened, but it is tremendous that martial law came out."

The Japanese Embassy in Korea warned its citizens living in South Korea last night via email, saying, "The specific measures are uncertain, but please announce them in the future." The Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

The newspaper said the Japanese government is in a hurry to collect related information after President Yoon's declaration of martial law.
