The White House says it has not been informed in advance by South Korea of President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of emergency martial law.

A White House National Security Council spokesperson said the U.S. had not been informed in advance of the declaration of emergency martial law when asked about the YTN's declaration of martial law.

He also said that he is seriously concerned about the development of the situation he is witnessing in South Korea.

The spokesman explained that the U.S. administration is in touch with the South Korean government and is closely monitoring the situation as we learn more about the situation.

President Joe Biden, who is visiting Angola in Africa, also said he was briefed on declaring martial law in South Korea.

Asked by reporters after his speech in Angola, Biden responded that he had just been briefed but had not been briefed on details.
