The White House expressed relief at the lifting of martial law by President Yoon Suk Yeol.

A White House National Security Council spokesperson responded to YTN's question about his position on lifting martial law, saying he was relieved that Yoon had changed his position on declaring martial law, which had been feared, and respected the National Assembly's vote to lift it.

He also said democracy is the basis of the Korea-U.S. alliance and that he will keep an eye on the situation.
