Representative Kim issued a statement on the 3rd (local time) saying, "The decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to lift martial law is an important measure to ease tensions and should be respected."
Representative Kim said, "Democracy always poses challenges," but stressed, "But it must be resolved through a democratic and open process."
"This method of declaring martial law has weakened the fundamental foundation of people's rule and dramatically increased Korea's vulnerability at a time when people should enjoy security and stability," he said.
Kim served as a three-term congressman in New Jersey. He was elected as a federal senator representing New Jersey in an election held with the U.S. presidential election on the 5th of last month.
