Demand for daily necessities in residential convenience stores surged momentarily after Yoon Suk Yeol's president declared an emergency last night.

A convenience store company said last night that canned goods sales were up 337% from the same time last week in a one-hour period at stores nationwide from 11 a.m. to midnight.

In addition, bag noodles increased by 254%, bottled water by 141%, instant rice by 129%, batteries by 41%, and safety-related medicines by 40%.

Other convenience stores also saw a 70% jump in instant rice sales during the same time period, while bottled water and ramen sales also increased by 50%.

When President Yoon declared an emergency decree at around 10:30 last night, it is analyzed that consumers moved to stockpile emergency food first.
