Born in Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do in 1968, Army General Park graduated from Deokwon High School in Daegu and entered the Korea Military Academy as the 46th class. He was promoted to colonel in 2011, he was promoted to major general in 2019, and to lieutenant general in 2022. Last year, he was appointed as a general, the chief of staff of the Army, in personnel appointments of military generals.
Under the martial law law, the president is required to appoint a general-level officer recommended by the defense minister among active general-level officers after deliberation by the Cabinet.
