Mayor and county heads of Gyeonggi-do Province said, "Thank God the emergency decree was lifted...Best for Civil Safety and Public Life"

In connection with the declaration and lifting of emergency martial law, mayors and county heads in Gyeonggi Province have made a series of statements that they will do their best to ensure the safety of citizens and stabilize the economy of people's livelihoods.

Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il, a member of the People's Power, presided over an executive meeting in the video conference room of City Hall and said, "I'm glad the martial law has been lifted," adding, "Let's do our best to help citizens engage in their lives with confidence while keeping their place."

"The president has lifted the emergency martial law in respect of the National Assembly's decision, but I think the public has yet to shake off anxiety," he said. "I hope the president's office, the Cabinet, the National Assembly, and the ruling and opposition parties will make efforts to normalize the political situation so that the people can live a normal life."

In addition, Mayor Lee canceled the 2nd Hangang Love Forum, which was scheduled to be held at City Hall this morning.

Mayor Lee asked four mayors and counties, including Gwangju Mayor Bang Se-hwan, Icheon Mayor Kim Kyung-hee, Yangpyeong County Governor Jeon Jin-sun, and Gapyeong County Governor Seo Tae-won, to explain the political situation and hold a forum when appropriate to discuss deregulation in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-joon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a Facebook post, "Suwon City puts the safety of its citizens first, and all public services will be provided normally," adding, "Suwon City and all public officials will be with citizens in any situation."

In a press release, Pyeongtaek Mayor Chung Jang-sun, a member of the same party, expressed his concern about the president's declaration and lifting of anti-constitutional emergency martial law and paid tribute to the National Assembly's swift resolution to lift martial law.

Also, Anseong Mayor Kim Bo-ra of the same party held an emergency meeting and said, "Something that should not happen nationally has happened and the worst that was feared has been avoided, but we don't know the direction in the future," adding, "At times like this, public officials should do their best to work together to relieve civil anxiety."

Paju Mayor Kim Kyung-il, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, posted on Facebook early this morning when the resolution to lift the martial law was approved at the National Assembly, saying, "It's a must-have, the people will win."
