It was around 8:50 p.m. last night that the railway union declared a breakdown in negotiations that had lasted for about five hours.

The railway union, which has demanded a 2.5% increase in basic salaries, a settlement of overdue wages, and a recruitment of new routes, argued that it tried to minimize public inconvenience at a time when emergency martial law was declared, but that the management was consistent with an irresponsible attitude.
