The acquisition and merger of Kroger and Albertsons, a large U.S. supermarket chain, have finally failed.

Albertsons issued a press release saying it notified Kroger of the termination of the merger agreement with Kroger.

Albertsons said it filed a lawsuit against Kroger, saying he did not do his best to get approval from rival authorities for a business combination, as well as not doing all the necessary measures.

Albertsons said it will immediately spend $600 million in commission fees and 850 billion won in our money to close the merger agreement.

He also said that he had been subject to unnecessary restrictions on his business strategy over the past few years to obtain approval for the merger, signaling that his claim for compensation for losses would amount to trillions of won.

Earlier in October 2022, Kroger, the second-largest U.S. supermarket chain, announced that it would acquire fourth-largest chain Albertsons for $24.6 billion and 35 trillion won in our money.

However, a U.S. federal court ruled in favor of the Federal Trade Commission on the 10th that the merger between the two companies would limit competition in the supermarket market and that the merger should be prevented.
