The Supreme Court today (12th) confirmed the lower court that sentenced CEO Cho to two years in prison and an additional 6 million won order on charges of forgery of private documents, obstruction of business, and abuse of authority.
As the prison sentence has been confirmed, representative Cho will have to serve two years in prison, and will be deprived of his parliamentary seat and his right to run for the next five years.
Earlier, CEO Cho was sentenced to two years in prison for writing false information in his two children's entrance examination data and covering up the inspection of Yoo Jae-soo, the former deputy mayor for economic affairs in Busan.
The Supreme Court dismissed both CEO Cho and the prosecutor's appeals, saying there was no misunderstanding of the law in the judgment of the lower court's guilt or innocence.
An official of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party met with reporters in front of the Supreme Court shortly after the sentence and said he was deeply sorry for the court's ruling, and said he would run the party without wavering.
