This comes four days after Syrian rebels led by the Islamic militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) ousted the Bashar al-Assad regime and declared victory on the 8th.
Blinken will meet Jordanian King Abdullah II and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Sadabi in Akaba to discuss the process of establishing the next Syrian government.
He will also visit Turkiye, which has been deeply involved in the situation in Syria.
"We must make a clear commitment to respect the rights of minorities, promote the flow of humanitarian aid, and prevent Syria from being used as a terrorist base or a threat to its neighbors," Blinken said ahead of the trip.
According to the State Department's explanation, Blinken will use the trip to express his support for the U.S. transition to an inclusive, responsible and representative government led by Syrians.
