'Pardon Son Controversy' Biden Pardons Up To 1,500 People All-Time

U.S. President Joe Biden, who caused controversy by pardoning his son more than a month before his term, pardoned 39 people and reduced his sentence to 1,500 people.

President Biden issued a statement on the 12th local time saying he was pardoning 39 people who successfully completed rehabilitation and have shown a commitment to making their communities stronger and safer.

Pardoners have been convicted of nonviolent crimes, including marijuana possession, and the commutators are those who could face a lower sentence if charged, most of whom have been released during COVID-19 and are in home quarantine.The Department of Justice released more than 36,000 prisoners in 2020 and quarantined them at home, with the exception of some who went to prison for violating regulations, most of them staying at home and living under authorities regulations, including employment.

The White House described Biden as the first president to grant pardons to individuals and former LGBTQ soldiers convicted of marijuana use or possession.

The move comes 11 days after President Biden reversed his promise on the 1st and pardoned his son Hunter, who was convicted of possession of a firearm and tax evasion.
